Planning Department’s Elizabeth Bonventre Promoted to Senior Planner

By: Rich Hosford

A dedicated Planning Department has been given a promotion.

Assistant Planner Elizabeth Bonventre was appointed to the position of Senior Planner during the Planning Board’s October 3 meeting. Bonventre will replace former Senior Planner Josh Morris who recently left for a new position in another town.

The promotion was at the recommendation of Planning Director Kristin Kassner who said that since coming onboard in 2015, Bonventre has been an invaluable employee for the department. Kassner said she has been instrumental in getting the town’s zoning bylaws up to date online and updated the town’s zoning maps, something that hasn’t been tackled in decades. She has also been a key part of getting the department’s new online application system up and running.

I think she’s grown tremendously since taking the position and has a lot of institutional knowledge in the town of Burlington,” Kassner said. “She has been a remarkably quick study in the tasks of the senior planner and has already taken over many of the day to day responsibilities with ease. I strongly endorse Liz as the candidate for Senior Planner.”

Kassner added that she believes Bonventre will fit well in the new role.

“Her visionary planning skills, organization and ability to think outside the box will be assets to the Planning Department and I hope we’ll be able to retain her skill sets for many years to come,” she said.

Board Chair Barbara L’Heureux said she agreed that Bonventre was a great fit for the position.

I would like to echo the sentiments Kristin expressed,” she said. “I think we’re incredibly lucky to have Liz. She is hardworking and smart and has the respect of all the town departments as well as the business community we work with. I can’t think of anyone better qualified for this position. I think we understand her value and we can’t afford to lose her.”

The board voted unanimously to approve the recommendation.

Bonventre, who has a Master’s degree in Planning from Tufts University, thanked the board for first bringing her on as Assistant Planner and for the new opportunity to be Senior Planner.

“I really like working here so thank you for giving me this opportunity in the first place and now in the second place,” she said.
