Red Devils Boys Hockey Preparing to Take to the Ice this Winter Season

By: Robert Parris

The Burlington Boys Varsity Hockey Team is gearing up for another season on the ice.

Last year the Red Devils began the season with an 9-0 record, having their opponents score only 2 points or less. Unfortunately, the Red Devils lost for the first time that year to the Hingham Harbormen with a final score of 3 to 1.

Although the undefeated season was out the window, the Red Devils still made to the first round of the 2018 MIAA Boys Hockey State Tournament as the number sixth seed. They faced off against the number three seed, the St. John Prep Eagles, who came out with the victory in that one.

The Red Devils season continued following a loss to the Eagles in a non-playoff game against Pope Francis, which they also lost.

With the new season on the horizon, the team has been preparing during the offseason for their first match up in December.

“We have been relaxing, but we are always thinking about the next season which is now here,” Head Coach Bob Conceison said.

In total, the boys will be playing 20 games in the regular season, with two tournament games both being held at the Burlington Ice Palace in February 2019.

“Our schedule is very tough, but an appropriate schedule for our hockey program,” Conceison said.

One of the biggest concerns for the season is replacing the positions from last year left vacant by graduates.

“We lost eight solid seniors from last year’s team,” Coach Conceison said. “We have big holes to plug in the most important aspects of the game; we will be a work in progress.”

Finally, the team is ready to display a number of skills on offense and defense during the upcoming season.

“We are looking forward to being competitive in every game,” the coach said. “I am very excited to how the younger kids have improved and grown during the off-season.”

The Burlington Red Devils will have their first game on Wednesday, December 12 against the Marauders in Belmont. The game will begin at approximately 5 p.m.

The home opener will be on Saturday, December 15 at 6 p.m. against the Woburn Tanners at the Burlington Ice Palace.
