Scam Targeting Netflix Customers Employs Authentic-Looking Emails

Users of one of the most popular television and movie platforms should be aware of criminals trying to take advantage of them.

Multiple outlets are reporting a scam targeting Netflix customers that has been highly prevalent in the last week. In the scam a Netflix customer receives a fake email from the company claiming there are issues with their payment and their account has been deactivated. In order to the restore the account the email provides a link where customers can “log in” and enter their payment information. Once they do that, the scammers have their information.

Making matters worse is that the emails look like authentic messages sent by Netflix.

In response to the scam, Netflix issued a statement:

“We take the security of our members’ accounts seriously and Netflix employs numerous proactive measures to detect fraudulent activity to keep the Netflix service and our members’ accounts secure. Unfortunately, scams are common on the internet and target popular brands such as Netflix and other companies with large customer bases to lure users into giving out personal information. Members who want to learn more about how to keep their personal information safe against phishing scams and other malicious activity can go to or contact Customer Service directly.”
