Sichuan Gourmet to Replace Mr. Chan's on Middlesex Turnpike

By: Rich Hosford

A Burlington restaurant is changing ownership and becoming part of a local gourmet Chinese food chain.

Representatives of Sichuan Gourmet were at the Board of Selectmen meeting Monday night to get a transfer of a liquor license from Mr. Chan’s to their new business. They said they will be taking over and operating out of the former Mr. Chan’s restaurant at 91 Middlesex Turnpike in roughly a month.

There are currently Sichuan Gourmets in Billerica, Framingham, Brookline and Sharon.

An attorney for the restaurant chain said there will be no change in the seating capacity and the new restaurant will have the same hours of operation as the previous tenant. There will be some cosmetic changes done to the interior. They will also change the menu to reflect their emphasis on Sichuan cooking.

A representative of the restaurant said they were given Zagat’s highest rating in 2015 and are looking forward to locating in town.

“We are very confident about our product and excited to come to Burlington,” she said.

She added that the team has many years of restaurant experience and all have gone through both private training in serving alcohol and have Serve Safe certificates.

The board approved the transfer with a unanimous vote.
