Special Primary for State Senate is Tuesday

By: Rich Hosford

Voters will be heading to the polls on Tuesday, June 27 for a Special Primary to select a candidate to fill the Massachusetts 4th Middlesex District State Senate seat left vacant with the passing of State Sen. Ken Donnelly.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Burlington High School gym.

For those who will be unable to cast their ballot at the polls on Election Day, Absentee Voting is being conducted at the Town Clerk’s Office until noon on Monday, June 26th.

The primary will feature only Democratic candidates as no Republicans filled out the paperwork to run.

The Democratic candidates vying for votes in the Special State Primary are State Rep. Sean Garballey (currently representing the 23rd Middlesex District), Donnelly’s former chief of staff Cindy Friedman and member of the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Mary Ann Stewart.

The winner of the primary will face off against Green-Rainbow candidate Ian Jackson in the Special Election on July 25.

The three Democratic candidates recently participated in a forum put on by the Burlington Democratic Town Committee. BCAT taped the event and you can watch it in full here.
