Target has confirmed that it will be opening in the Crossroads Plaza in Burlington and has supplied additional information on the incoming tore.

As reported on BNEWS, the Roche Bros. in the plaza at 34 Cambridge Street is set to close when its lease expires on December 9. Yesterday, Target announced plans to expand in the area with two new small-format stores, one in Porter Square in Cambridge and one in the former Roche Bros. location in Burlington. Both stores are expected to open in October of 2018.

“These two locations will be Target’s sixth and seventh small-format stores in the area, joining the existing locations in Stoneham, Cambridge Central Square and Packard’s Corner,” an announcement from the company states. “Target has also announced plans to open a Roslindale store in March and a Medford store in July 2018.”

Target also released additional information about the Burlington store. It will be approximately 46,000 sq. ft., and the store will employ approximately 75 team members and will provide a variety of items, including:

- A grocery selection for the fill-in trip or weekly stock-up, including fresh produce, grab-and-go items, snacks and meal solutions.

- Baby and kids assortment, including apparel, toys and sporting goods.

- Men’s, women’s apparel and accessories, including offerings from new Target-exclusive brands A New Day and Goodfellow & Co. A curated home assortment.

- A broad beauty assortment presented in a boutique-style setting.

- Services include CVS Pharmacy and Order Pickup.

In a release a representative for Target said the new locations will help the company serve thousands of customers.

"With the addition of our Porter Square and Burlington stores as well as our new Roslindale and Medford locations, Target will be able to serve thousands more guests in the Boston area in 2018 with shopping experiences unique to each neighborhood," said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Properties, Target. "Boston is a priority city for growth and investment at Target, and our small-format stores offer local guests the ease and inspiration of a curated assortment alongside a pickup point for online orders."

EDENS, the company that owns Crossroads Plaza, is also excited about the new tenant.

“EDENS is thrilled to welcome our great retail partner Target to the Burlington Crossroads neighborhood,” said Elizabeth Furnelli, Managing Director at EDENS. “Target’s small-format store is an exciting addition to this shopping center and a great opportunity for this community to come together and connect with each other.”
