Three People Injured in Mall Road Rollover Accident

By: Rich Hosford

Three people were transported after a single vehicle rollover crash was reported at the corner of Mall Road and South Bedford Street around noon on Wednesday.

Fire Chief Mike Patterson said the driver and two passengers were brought to the hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries. He said he was not sure of the age of the passengers.

The accident did not involve another vehicle. Instead, Patterson said it appeared the vehicle hit the curb on the sidewalk and flipped over. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear but Patterson said police are investigating.

The vehicle landed in a next to parking lot used by the Mall Road Knowledge Beginnings daycare. Fortunately, he said, the parking lot was mostly empty as the center is closed due to the pandemic.

“We are grateful that the parking lot of the daycare was mostly empty,” he said. “This could have been worse if it had been at full capacity.”

Finally, Patterson said when the initial call came it was for an extraction, meaning someone was trapped inside the vehicle. However, when the ambulance arrived all three people were outside the vehicle.
