Town Financial Report Receives Award for Fourth Straight Year

Burlington’s financial team is making the town proud by once again garnering recognition for the quality of its reports.

The Burlington Board of Selectmen recently announced that the Town had been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the year ending June 30, 2018 by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the town’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

This is the fourth year in a row that the Certificate of Achievement has been received, and it is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“This national award is a reflection of how the town goes above and beyond to provide extensive transparency to residents and others, and we are very pleased to recognize the financial team's extreme amount of work done in the compilation of the report,” said Town Administrator Paul Sagarino.

The report is available on the Town’s Accounting Department's website at 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report

The goal of GFOA’s program is to ensure that users of their financial statements have the information they need in order to assess the financial health of participating governments, a release from Sagarino’s office explains. Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, which comprises individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
