Volunteer to Place Flags on Veteran Graves for Memorial Day Ceremony

Honor Burlington’s deceased veterans and help the town get ready to honor all of our nation’s fallen heroes on Memorial Day.

Burlington Office of Veterans Services is seeking volunteers to help place 3,000 flags on the graves of veterans for the Memorial Day observation.

Volunteers are asked to gather at Chestnut Hill Cemetery at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 (rain date Tuesday, May 22 at 3:45 p.m.) to assist with the flag placement. Flags will be placed on graves at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Pine Haven Cemetery and the Second Parish Burial Ground.

“We would like to welcome you to volunteer to help us ensure that each Veteran buried in the Town of Burlington has a brand new American Flag placed at their grave prior to Memorial Day,” a notice on the department’s website reads.

They ask that volunteers RSVP so they know how many people are coming. You can find that sign-up sheet here.

Finally, it is recommended that volunteers bring a pair of pliers to help with the removal of last year’s flags.
