BPL Special Presentation: Service of Supply

Charl Maynard, retired Children's Librarian from the Burlington Public Library, presents Service of Supply. For a year, one young officer writes colorful letters to his sweetheart describing his life behind the lines in World War 1. First, at a huge 25,000 person supply depot in central France; and later, at the end of hostilities, from the Effect Depot at St. Nazaire, France.
From his departure for Europe to his return, we see his unbridled patriotism, the entertainments of his off-duty hours, and the curiosity of a soldier who travels around France and England on his military leaves. We also hear of his frustrations, his work, transportation issues, and the impact of the Great Influenza Epidemic.
