Local Organizations Holding Bake Sale, Fund Drive, to Support COVID Aid in India

A collection of local non-profit and social justice groups are raising funds to help India’s response to its horrific COVID-19 situation with a bake sale.

“India’s Coronavirus second wave is a devastating crisis, with hospitals unbearably full, oxygen supplies running low and the mounting death tolls,” a notice from the groups says. “The current data shows that in some cities the numbers are declining but the crisis is far from over and the situation is still grim.”

The local organizations responding to the crisis include Saheli, Indian Americans for Burlington (IAB), the Burlington Equity Coalition (BEC), the Burlington Breakfast Rotary Club, the Friends of Indian Senior Citizens Organization (FISCO) and other local organizations.

The bake sale offers a Cookie Box, a Cake Box and a Vegan Box. Click Here for a link. Donations can also be made to organizer Jessica Lin on Venmo at @Jessicat_Lin (notice the extra ‘t’).

All donations will go to help the work of the American Indian Foundation (AIF) in their fight against COVID in India, who has been on the ground since the start of the pandemic.

“In 2020, during the first phase of coronavirus, AIF reached out to over 500,000 people with protective gear and close to 900,000 with prepared meals and ration kits, through its mass awareness and prevention drive,” the organization’s website states. “Now, we ask you to join us again to help us shore up supplies of medical oxygen amid rising demand for beds, as a fast-spreading second wave of coronavirus devastates through the country. AIF is working with local governments, hospitals, and stakeholders to understand the needs from cities to rural villages. Our 20 years of working within these systems and our expansive network allows us to quickly direct equipment to where it is needed. But we need your support to save these lives.”
