The wet and rainy conditions didn’t stop the Burlington Red Devils and Bedford Buccaneers from clashing on Thanksgiving Day.

Bedford took the lead early in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns and keeping Burlington from putting any points on the board. 14-0.

But Burlington got their feet under them in the second quarter, with quarterback Anthony Gerrior banking two passing touchdowns, to Drew Garvey with 68 yards and Ryan Brooks with 55 yards, respectively. Unfortunately, the Burlington special teams failed to make either extra point attempt, bringing the score to 14-12 Bedford heading into the half. It was the last time Burlington scored for the remainder of the game.

Bedford continued to power through the wet weather with two more scoring drives in the third quarter. The Buccaneers took home the Thanksgiving trophy this season with a final score of 28-12 and have now defeated Burlington four years in a row in the holiday game.

On a brighter note, Burlington finished the year at 8-3 and were the Middlesex League Freedom Division Champs. Gerrior and Brooks also earned recognition from the Middlesex League All Conference.

It was the last game for 11 seniors on the Burlington roster: J.T. Doherty, John Melo, Ryan Rumsey, Arthur De Barros, Tyler Vadnais, Chris Williams, Christian Fillios, Mark Seltser, Joe Doyle and James Mutyabi, and Anthony Gerrior. Gerrior will graduate with 2,715 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 5 rushing touchdowns and 352 rushing yards in the last year alone. He also has now made two school records for 6,274 passing yards and 63 passing touchdowns since his start in his sophomore year.

Brooks also broke the school record for receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season 1,170 yards and 15 touchdowns.
