Varsity: The Burlington Red Devils finished off the season with the last game of the season against the Watertown Red Raiders. Click here for the highlights

Head Coach Dan MacKay couldn’t of been happier of the way the last game of the season finished.

“We came out and we got off to a quick start by scoring on our first drive,” Head Coach Dan MacKay said.  The team managed to put up three more touchdowns before halftime “That gave us a ton of momentum going into the half and really proud of their efforts.” 

The roster will change going into the off-season, as a number of seniors will be graduating in June. 

“We are losing fourteen seniors, so a lot of seniors in this class are going to be missed,” he said. “They have done a phenomenal job and worked really hard for us, especially during this weird season, he said. “ I am glad they got something, unfortunately  it wasn’t the traditional season, but I am glad to see them go out winning. 

The following seniors will be departing from the team his off-season,

Receiver/Corner Joe Mitchell, Offensive/Defensive Lineman Griffin Carter, Receiver/Corner Shawn Pinkham, Receiver/Quarterback/Safety Matt Pinkham, Receiver/Safety Cole Frieden, WR/Corner Owen Kim, Running back/Corner Adam Eldeeb, RB/LB Charlie Gratten, O-lineman and LB Sami Ahmed, O and D-lineman Justin Sacca, O and D-lineman Ray Magliozzi,  O/D Lineman Christian Aine, O/D Lineman Charlie Andriolo, O/D Lineman Liam Brown, WR/Safety Ryan Tigges and Receiver/Safety Alex Manneta.

Congrats to the entire team and good luck to all the seniors on their endeavors. The Red Devils end the season at (2-3).

Varsity: Boys Varsity Football will face the Watertown Red Raiders on Friday, April 23 at Burlington High School Varsity Field for their final regular season game. The team is currently (1-3).

 

Below written on 4-12-2021

Varsity: Red Devil Football had a home meet against the Melrose Red Red Raiders on Friday, April 9 at Burlington High School. The Red Raiders came out firing on offense and defense. In the first quarter alone, Melrose put up 21 unanswered points. They then added two touchdowns and one field goal in the second. The half-time score was 37-0 Red Raiders.  The Red Devils ended up scoring with 2:29 left in the third with a run by Ryan McGillivray. The final in the game was 37-6 Melrose. 

Burlington couldn’t find any momentum during the first half of the game and kept missing opportunities to score.

“Too many turnovers in the first half, we turned it over three to four times in the first half and every Melrose possession they scored,” Head Coach Dan MacKay said. “We had an opportunity to make it 21-7 and then we were given an offensive penalty and missed an opportunity in the end zone,” he said. “I was proud of the effort in the second half.”

The Red Devils move to (1-3) on the season. The team was originally scheduled to verse the Watertown Red Raiders on Saturday, April 17, however due to COVID Protocols this game has been rescheduled to Friday, April 23 at 5 pm at BHS.

JV: Boys JV Football faced Melrose on Sunday, April 11 at BHS. The Red Devils lost by a score of 33-20. The team was scheduled to play the Watertown Red Raiders, but due to COVID Protocols this game will be rescheduled.

 

 

Below written on 4/5/2021

Varsity: Boys Varsity Football headed to  Wakefield to take on the Warriors on Saturday, April 3. The only touchdown in the game was in the fourth quarter Sophomore/ Quarterback Nick Berglund threw it to Senior/Wide Receiver Matt Pinkham for a Red Devil Touchdown. Final in the game was 9-7 Wakefield. Burlington drops to (1-2) on the season and will be at home to face the Melrose Red Raiders on Friday, April 9 at BHS.

 

 

Below written on 3/29/21

Varsity: Boys Varsity Football faced off against the Stoneham Spartans on Saturday, March 27. Although it was the home opener for Stoneham, the game was played at the Woburn Memorial High School Field. In the first quarter,  Senior Shawn Pinkham caught a Touchdown pass from Sophomore Nick Berglund for a score of 6-0. In the second quarter, Ryan McGillivray ran it in to the endzone for Burlington 12-0. Stoneham’s only score was in the second quarter. The final in the game was 12-7 Burlington. The Red Devils move to (1-1) and will head to Wakefield on Saturday, April 3.

Below written on 3/22/21

Varsity: Red Devil Football hosted the Wilmington Wildcats on Saturday, March 20 at Varsity Field. It was a very defensive game throughout the four quarters. In the end, Burlington gave up a field goal with just two minutes left. The final score was 3-0 Wilmington.

Our defense played great and extremely hard the whole game, Head Coach Dan MacKay said.

Red Devil offense found it difficult to get any sort of points on the scoreboard.

We had a tough time getting a rhythm going and a little inconsistent on offense, Mackay said. We had our chances and did not execute when we needed to.”

 

Although the result of the first game wasn’t what the team had hoped for, Mackay is proud of the athletes efforts during the game.

The kids played hard during the entire game and we will learn from it and we will get better because of it, he said.

Burlington starts the season off (0-1) and will head to Stoneham on Saturday, March 27 at 6 pm for a match up with the Spartans. This game will be played at the Woburn Memorial High School Field.

JV: Sub-varsity faced the Wilmington Wildcats at Varsity Field on Sunday, March 21. The Red Devils won the game 12-6. The start the season at (1-0) and will head to Stoneham to see the Spartans on Sunday, March 28.

Varsity: Boys Varsity Football will kick off the season with the Wilmington Wildcats on Saturday, March 20 at Varsity Field.

JV: JV will face off against Wilmington on Sunday, March 21 at Varsity Field.
