BHS Fall Sports Continues Seasons in Tournaments

A few Red Devil teams are still in the mix of the MIAA Playoff tournaments.

Varsity Cross Country:
Boys Cross Country: (5-0)

November 13 Away: MIAA Division II Championship
Red Devils Cross Country traveled to Stanley Park in Westfield for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Div. II Championship. Seven athletes competed at the championship including seniors Rithikh Prakash, Eric Sekyaya, Patrick Gray, Inesh Parikh, juniors Colin Irwin, Shaunak Rembhotkar and sophomore Krish Almeida. Here are the results from the championship.

Boys 5K Run:
3rd place- sr. Rithikh Prakash-15:45
4th place- sr. Eric Sekyaya-15:59
17th place- sr. Patrick Gray-16:46
18th place- jr. Colin Irwin-16:49
29th place- so. Krish Almeida-17:10
79th place- jr. Shaunak Rembhotkar-18:29
82nd place- sr. Inesh Parikh-18:33

The Red Devils finished in first place with 71 points and were named the MIAA Division 2A State Meet Champions. Congrats to everyone who competed in the states meet. Burlington will travel to the MIAA All States Championship meet on November 19 at Fort Devens.

Varsity Football (4-6)

November 10 Home: Burlington 28 Newburyport 42
Burlington had a loss at home against the Newburyport Clippers in a non-playoff game. Sophomore Anthony Gerrior threw three touchdowns during the evening one to sophomore/wide receiver John Melo, another to senior/wide receiver Gabe Santiago and junior/wide receiver Jack Tzovaras. The Red Devils will close out the season on Thursday, November 24th on Thanksgiving Day at Bedford High School against the Buccaneers.

Girls Burlington/Woburn Varsity Swimming team: (1-7)

November 13 Away: MIAA State Tournament at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Burlington and Woburn splashed into the water for the last time this season as they competed in the MIAA State Tournament at MIT. Here were the results from the tournament.

50 Yard Freestyle:
17th place- fr. Kayleigh McCarthy-26.89

200 Yard Freestyle Relay:
11th place- fr. Kayleigh McCarthy, fr. Alex Mahon, fr. Grace Davison, jr. Maria Brito-1:51.86

400 Yard Freestyle Relay:
12th place- jr. Maria Brito, fr. Grace Davison, fr. Ryley McCarthy, fr. Kayleigh McCarthy-4:11.83

The team finished in fourteenth place with a total of 22 points. Eleven seniors are departing from the team this off-season Julia Pospisil, Noelle Coughlin, Izzy Serrecchia, Caroline Sciarratta, Lindsay Bullock, Radina Kalatchev, Kyra Floyd, Cass Meyer, Vittoria Breschi, Roos Groesbeek and Ava Brehm.

Lady Devils Cheerleading competed in the North Regional Cheerleading competition at Billerica Memorial High School on November 13. The Red Devils competed against eleven other teams including Dracut Senior, Shawsheen Tech, Danvers, Wilmington, Pentucket Regional, North Reading, Wakefield, Tewksbury, Gloucester, Saugus and Swampscott.  Burlington came in second place with a final score of 89.6 and will compete at the state tournament on November 20 at Worcester State University.
