BHS Fall Sports Headed Into Playoffs

Did someone say playoffs? We have a look at the first round of the playoffs for the Red Devils.

Varsity Football: (3-5) 

November 4 Home: Burlington 42 Medford 8
Burlington had a blowout win against the Medford Mustangs in a non-playoff game. Sophomore Anthony Gerrior threw four touchdowns during the evening one to sophomore/wide receiverJohn Melo, another to senior/wide receiver Gabe Santiago, one to freshmen/wide receiver Ryan Brooks and sophomore/wide receiver Charlie Hanafin.  Senior/running back Mike Damato had two rushing touchdowns as well. Highlights will be published tomorrow afternoon. Girls Varsity Volleyball: (16-5)

(MIAA Division II Playoffs “Round of 32”) November 3 Home: Burlington 2 Milton 3
It was a back and forth game for both teams as a winner wasn’t decided until the sudden death round of set five. Burlington secured two set wins in the first and third. Milton had two set wins as well in the second and fourth. In set five, Burlington had a heartbreaking three point loss after Milton won 15-12 ending the Devils season. Girls Cross Country: (1-4)
November 5 Away: MSTCA Frank Mooney XC Invitational
Lady Devils Cross Country traveled to the Wrentham Developmental Center for the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Frank Mooney XC Invitational. Four athletes competed in the invitational sophomore Ashley DeMartinis, freshmen Kritika Agarwala, Kayla Mackie and Ellery Schwoebel. Here are the results from the invitational.

Sophomore race:
10th place- so. Ashley DeMartinis 21:15

Freshmen race:
21st place- fr. Kritika Agarwala-14:01
38th place- fr. Kayla Mackie-14:45
46th place- fr. Ellery Schwoebel-15:21

Jessica Wells is the lone senior that will be departing from the cross country team this off-season.

Boys Cross Country: (5-0)

November 5 Away: MSTCA Frank Mooney XC Invitational
Red Devils Cross Country traveled to the Wrentham Developmental Center for the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Frank Mooney XC Invitational. Ten athletes competed in the invitational seniors Jack Kelley, Dakota Ellis, juniors Shaunak Rembhotkar, Ayush Agrawal, sophomores Jayden Lamoretti, Alexander Chang, Eshaan Kansagra, freshmen Evans Katayomba, Ivan Ivanov and Cyrus Riahi. Here were the results from the invitational.

Freshmen race:

Burlington will compete in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Divisional Championship on November 12 at Stanley Park in Westfield. In addition senior Rithikh Prakash has committed to Cornell University for the fall of 2023.

Girls Burlington/Woburn Varsity Swimming team: (1-7) 

November 6 Away: Sectional Meet at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
The Devils and Tanners jumped in the water for the sectionals meet at WPI. Here were the results.

200 Yard Medley Relay:
15th place-Alex Mahon, Roos Groesbeck, Grace Davison and Kayleigh McCarthy-2:09.10

200 Yard Freestyle Relay:
11th place- Kayleigh McCarthy, Alex Mahon, Maria Brito, Grace Davison-1:52.32

400 Yard Freestyle Relay:
12th place- Maria Brito, Grace Davison, Ryley McCarthy, Kayleigh McCarthy- 4:16.32

The conjoined team finished in fifteen place and scoring 26 points. Brito, Davison and the McCarthys’ of the 400 yard freestyle relay team qualified in the MIAA State Tournament at MIT on November 13. Congrats to the team and we wish them luck at states!

Varsity Soccer:

Girls: (5 wins, 10 losses, 4 wins)

(Division II MIAA Playoffs “Preliminary Round”) November 4 Home: Burlington 1 Dartmouth 5
It was a heartbreaking way to end the season for Lady Devils Soccer. Dartmouth came into Burlington and blown out the Devils as they scored five goals in the win.
