BHS Spring Sports Week in Review: Varsity Track Went to MSTCA State Coaches Meet over Weekend, Boys Tennis on Winning Streak

The sixth week of the spring is here and the varsity track teams were invited to the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Coaches Meet, while the Red Devil Tennis team is on a win streak. 

Varsity Tennis:

Girls Tennis:
          May 9th  Home: Burlington 5  Stoneham 0

May 11th Away: Burlington 3  Watertown 2

May 12th Away: Burlington 1  Melrose 4
Senior Annabel Wiley won in her first singles match in Melrose. Burlington is now (6-7) on the season and will be back at home on May 17 against Wakefield.

Boys Tennis:
The Red Devils played fourth matches last week and were on fire as they with a 4 win streak.

May 9th Away: Burlington 5 Stoneham 0

May 10th Home: Burlington 4 Central Catholic 1

May 11th Home: Burlington 5 Watertown 0
In first singles, sophomore Aditya Pathak won two of his matches with the first with a score of 6-3 and his second one 6-2. Freshmen Soham Shah and sophomore Andrew Perl both won their two matches in 6-0 shutouts. The two first doubles teams of Junior Brendan Gray, freshmen Krish Soni and senior Malachi Riley and sophomore Arnesh Yeola both won two 6-0 shutout wins as well. 

May 12th Home: Burlington 5 Melrose 0
In first singles, Pathak defeated Patrick Stratford of Melrose in two shutout games of 6-0. Shah had a one-sided affair over Sean Donavan 6-1 and 6-2. Finally, Perl finished his matches 6-1 and 6-0 over Nathan Chow. At first doubles Gray and Soni had two victories of 6-1, 6-2 over Caleb Miller and Ben Rossi of Melrose. Riley and Yeola had the same results as their teammates 6-2, 6-1 as they defeated Dan O’Donnell and Ian Kamox. Currently the team stands at (11-5) and will have an away meet at the Dobbins Tennis Courts in Wakefield on May 17.

Varsity Lacrosse:

Girls Lacrosse:


May 9th  Away: Burlington 13 Woburn 5
Lady Devils Lacrosse had an away game at Doucette Field in Tewksbury on May 9 where they won in a blowout victory of 13-5.

May 11th Away: Burlington 6 Woburn 4
Senior Jolene Russo helped the team out as she scored two goals from the day. Another two goals came from sophomore Charlize Collins and Jill Gillis and Ilex Fowler each scored one.
The Lady Devils are (13-3) and will have an away game at Landrigan Field in Wakefield on May 18. 

Boys Lacrosse:
Red Devils Lacrosse had three games this past week against Westwood, Woburn and Melrose. Burlington was home against Westwood and Woburn on the 9th and 11th. The Red Devils lost by two points over Westwood 5-7. Burlington got back in the win column against Woburn with a score of 5-3. On May 12 the team had an away game at Fred Green Memorial Field in Melrose where they lost by a point of 9-10. Burlington goes to (7-6) on the season and will have a home game against Wakefield on May 18.

Varsity Baseball:

Red Devils Baseball had a tough week as they lost another two games. On May 10, Burlington had a home game against Watertown where they lost in a close game of 2-3. The Devils lost over Melrose on May 12 4 to 11. Burlington is one (5-10) this season and will have an away game at Walsh Field in Wakefield on May 17. 

Varsity Softball:

Lady Devils Softball had three games during the week: Central Catholic, Watertown and Melrose. The ladies had their first loss of the season over Central Catholic on May 9 3-6. Burlington bounced back with two shutout games against Watertown and Melrose. On May 10 in Watertown the team had a shutout victory of 7-0. The ladies are currently (15-1) after a shutout win on May 12 in Melrose 10-0. Burlington will have another home game at Marvin Field against Wakefield on May 17. 

Varsity Track:

Girls Track: 
Lady Devils track had their final regular season home meet on May 10th against Wilmington where they lost 47 to 89 and finished the regular season at (2-3). Burlington was invited to the MSTCA State Coaches Meet on May 14.

Senior Liz Breiby:
400 meter-63.96

Sophomore Hope Hanafin:
5th place- 400 meter-62.10

Sophomore Cora Laverty:
5th place- 100 meter hurdles- 16.56
2nd place- 400 meter hurdles- 68.01 (Personal Record)

Senior Brooke Bibbo:
1st place- Shot Put- 39′ 7 1/4” (Personal Record)
2nd place- Disus- 105′ 11”

Burlington will host the Middlesex League 12 Track and Field Championships against Reading High School on May 19. 

Boy Track: 
Red Devils track finished the regular season on May 10 with a win over Wilmington 91.5 to 44.5 Once again, the team was crowned the Middlesex League Freedom Division Champs after wrapping up the regular season at (5-0). Congrats to coach Matt Carr and his athletes on this accomplishment again! Burlington was invited to the MSTCA State Coaches Meet on May 14 at Boston College High School.

Here were some highlights from the meet:

Rithikh Prakash:
1st place- 2 Mile- 9:22.46 (Personal Record)

Alex Murray:
400m Hurdles- 62.74 (Personal Record)

The Red Devils will host the Middlesex League 12 Track and Field Championships against Reading High School on May 19. 

Boys Varsity Volleyball:

Red Devils volleyball had three games during the week over Greater Lawrence Technical, Winchester and Methuen.  In Greater Lawrence Tech. Burlington secured a 3-1 victory, but lost at home against Winchester on May 11 0-3 in the sets. Burlington is currently (3-6) this season after losing to Methuen on May 12 zero to three in the sets. The Red Devils will have a home meet on May 16 against Medford High School. 


Co-Ed Unified Basketball:

Burlington Unified basketball had an away game at Wenner Field House in Belmont on May 11, where they lost by ten 42 to 52. The devils are now (3-1) this season and will have an away game in Lexington on May 18.Â
