BHS Summer Sports Week in Review: 12U Cal Ripken team Competes in State Championship, 11U Wins State Championship

Burlington Summer Baseball League have been to the Cal Ripken state championships this past week and we have the scoop on how they did.

12U Cal Ripken:
The 12U Cal Ripken state championship title was on the line between Burlington and Weymouth on July 8. Check out the highlights here

State Championship Game 1: Burlington 5 Weymouth 6
No scoring took place until the top of the second when Weymouth had a 1-0 lead. The Red Devils tied things up in the bottom of the second 1-1.  Weymouth made the game one sided in the top of the third as they had five runs, making the score a whopping 1-6. Burlington came out firing in the bottom of the sixth, as the Red Devils scored four runs 5-6.  In the end, Weymouth held on to the one point lead in the first game 6-5.  The tournament was double elimination format and the Red Devils did not lose prior to this which forced both teams to a second game for the title.

State Championship Game 2: Burlington 1 Weymouth 2
It was a very long game two as both teams went through eight innings. Burlington and Weymouth were both tied in the bottom of the sixth 1-1. The scored stayed this way until the bottom of the eighth when Weymouth came away with a walkoff home run ending the game 2-1. Congrats to Weymouth who are your 2022 12U Cal Ripken State Champions.

Cal Ripken World Series Play In:
Both teams are not done yet, as Burlington will be hosting the Cal Ripken World Series Play In at Simonds Park. Burlington Weymouth, New Hampshire and Vermont will have an opportunity to get themselves to the World Series game in a round robin type tourney on July 16 and 17.

11U Cal Ripken:
The Burlington 11U Cal Ripken Baseball team was recently named  State Champions. To get to this point, the Devils had to go through pool play in games and a semi final game.  Burlington started off in the pool-play in tournament 0-3. The Devils did not give up as they needed to win the fourth game to advance to the semis. In their fourth game against Newburyport, Burlington won in blowout fashion of 10-1. They then took on Milton in the semi finals, where the game was a nail bitter as as it was tied at 6-6 in the sixth inning. Burlington was able to score in the top of seventh to take the lead 7-6. The Devils defense held on in the bottom of the seventh to advance to the state championship against Marblehead.  The state championship game was over within five innings as the Devils made the game one sided with an 11-1 win. Congratulations Burlington on finishing the playoffs as the 2022 11U Cal Ripken State Champs. The Devils will travel to the Regional Tournament in Harrison, Maine which will start on July 15 and end on the 21st.
