Big Wins and Disappointing Losses During this Week at BHS

There was a lot of action for the Red Devils this week with some teams rising and others falling in their divisions.

Varsity Soccer

The Boys Varsity Soccer team had a home game against the Watertown Red Raiders on Wednesday afternoon at the Marshall Simonds Middle School Brush Field. The Red Devils lost in a close one, 2-1, against the Red Raiders. Although a loss, Juan Sambrano got Burlington on the board late in the second half. The boys currently stand at (1-1-4) in their conference.  The boys will travel to take on the Melrose Red Raiders on Friday afternoon.

Girls Varsity Soccer also played the Watertown Red Raiders at Victory Field in Watertown. No one went home happy in that one as the game ended in a rare tie as neither team was able to put the ball in the net. The Lady Devils will also travel to Melrose on Friday.

The Lady Devil Volleyball team once again had a shutout on Wednesday afternoon when the girls faced the winless Watertown Red Raiders at home. The final score was 3-0 Burlington. The team is currently (7-1) in their conference. The girls will have another game on Friday evening against the Melrose Red Raiders at BHS.

Cross Country

The boys and girls Cross Country teams had home meets against the Melrose Red Raiders on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field. The boys are off to a (2-0) start to the season as they defeated the Red Raiders 36-22 after previously beating Winchester in the season opener. Senior Ricky Vittum had a personal record of 17 minutes and six seconds and finished in third place.

The girls got their first win of the season, beating the Red Raiders 48-15. The Lady Devils currently stand at (1-1) in their conference. The boys and girls will travel to Stoneham on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Spartans.

Finally, Varsity Field was full of Red Devils and Tanners fans, as the Battle of Winn Street took place last Friday afternoon. Both Woburn and Burlington were (1-0) at the time, but that all changed. Quarterback Kyhle Pena ran for three touchdowns and a successful two point conversion. He also had one 12-yard  passing touchdown to Shawn Pinkham. Burlington won 27-20. They will face the Watertown Red Raiders on Friday night at Victory Field. Burlington and Watertown are (2-0).
