It was a low scoring affair on the soccer field for the Burlington Red Devils and Wilmington Wildcats on Monday.
Wilmington had a 1-0 lead to start the night off as Senior Anay Gandhi got past Red Devil senior goaltender Logan Sehr. Sehr came out of the game after allowing the goal and Senior C.J. Hacker was brought in for the rest of the game.
Burlington got an opportunity to score against Wilmington after a penalty shot was called by the referee. The Red Devils allowed their goaltender Hacker to make the shot and was able to put it in the net for the Devils tying up the game 1-1. The Wilmington Wildcats goalie made nine saves during the first half, while Hacker came up with six. The score stayed the same during the entire second half as both defenses were spot on. Hacker came away with eight saves, while the goaltender for Wilmington stopped seven. No one went home with a win or a loss, with a final score of 1-1.
Head Coach Andrew Deane said the Red Devils brought their energy to the game and never gave it up during the two halves.
“I am proud of the work the boys have put in all year long,” he said. “There are so many ways to break past the final defender in soccer, a player needs to be creative and fearless to find a way behind the enemy line,” he said. “With that said there is no one correct answer to break in, it’s part of what makes soccer the beautiful game.”
The Red Devils will head to Stoneham on October 20 for a match up against the Spartans and currently stands at a record of (3-8-2).
