BPS Director of DEI to Hold ‘Let’s Talk About It’ Sessions

Burlington Public School’s Director of Diversity, Inclusions and Inclusions wants to hear from you and the community.

DEI Director Raymond Porch is holding a discussion called “Let’s Talk About It’ on Wednesday, October 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The link to register for the event can be found here

“Essentially what we’re trying to do is a bunch of different things: We’re looking to inform our community of what we’re doing and what our plan is with DEI,” he said.

Porch said there will be “break-out rooms” for discussions on different topics to gain a wide variety of perspectives.

“The idea is to welcome all voices – we want to have differing perspectives,” he said. “But most importantly we want to model the work, to build strong relationships through difference and understanding.”

He said the input from the community will help shape how Porch approaches his position.

“What I hope for the most is that students will come to the equation with what this will mean for their days at school,” he said. “‘Are my experiences important?’ and I hope that students ask that from the adults in the space. I’m hoping students feel empowered to ask questions about their critical experiences.”
