Burlington this fall will once again offer an alternative to Eversource electric service through a municipal aggregation plan, which the town hasn’t had on offer since 2018.
After years of holdup, the Department of Public Utilities issued an order reinstating the program, and now Burlington is hearing various options from its consultants at Colonial Power Group on what the new rates could be.
Under the system, residents on Eversource’s basic plan are automatically enrolled on the aggregation plan, which often has a lower rate because of the collective buying power of all of the town’s residents. Residents can opt out before the program begins or any time thereafter with no penalties.
Residents on Eversource’s basic plan will get a mailer in the coming weeks with information about the new plan and ways to opt out.
