The Town of Burlington has been awarded $15,000 through the Commonwealth’s Sports and Entertainment Events Fund Grant Program to support local promotion and celebration tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The grant program, administered by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, is designed to support operations, marketing, and safety planning for World Cup-related events and fan experiences across Massachusetts.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 through July 19, with several matches scheduled in the Greater Boston region. Gillette Stadium, which FIFA is referring to as “Boston Stadium” during the tournament, is set to host seven matches beginning June 13, including a Quarterfinal match.
Burlington’s Director of Economic Development, Melisa Tintocalis, said, “This funding offers a fun opportunity to promote local businesses, celebrate athleticism, and build community around one of the world’s most popular sports.”
Town officials say planning is still in the early stages, but the funding could support future World Cup-themed promotions, watch parties, and community events tied to the international tournament.
