Burlington Company Earns Innovation Honor

On the evening of November 3rd the Massachusetts Innovation Network celebrated the 2021 Innovation Season on the NorthStar Campus in Lincoln, MA at the The Evening of Innovation. The ceremony honored 11 companies with The Eddies Award (formerly New England Innovation Award). Among the honorees was Burlington’s own Evergreens.

Evergreen has developed unique technology that simulates ideal and sustainable growing conditions indoors. The idea is to provide fresh, sustainable greens locally year-round, making nutrient-rich, freshly harvested produce widely available and grown close to home. The process can be done almost anywhere and requires no need for soil, sunshine, pesticides, or excess water.

The Town of Burlington’s Economic Development Director Melisa Tintocalis expressed the town’s enthusiasm for having such and innovative company in Burlington.

“The Town of Burlington is proud to be the home of the 2021 Massachusetts Innovation Winner for Cleantech and Sustainability – Evergreen. They are an exciting sustainably-focused start-up rethinking the agricultural process and using technology to grow greens closer to markets, reducing the carbon impact of traditional food supply systems”, Tintocalis said. “Evergreen and similar start-ups have partnered with one of Burlington’s local gems, the Northeastern Innovation Campus at Burlington. Through a unique blend of research, private and public collaboration, Northeastern has been cultivating the innovation that will carry us to a brighter future. And it is all happening in Burlington, Boston’s neighbor for exciting research and development  in a wide variety of industries ranging from life science, additive manufacturing,  to cleantech like Evergreen.”

Over the course of eight months Massachusetts Innovation Network looked at 119 startup teams with 23 teams advancing to a final, live competition which included final pitches and exhibits of the technologies.
