The Board of Selectmen recently approved a proclamation for ‘Burlington DPW Appreciation Week’ during the week of July 26th.
The new Parks and Recreation maintenance facility at 10 Meadow Road is ready for its official unveiling and to kick off DPW appreciation week a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Monday July 26th 9am. The following Saturday, July 31st the DPW will host an open house of the the new facility for those interested.
Selectmen Nick Priest acknowledged the timing of the DPW appreciation week in conjunction with the facility’s official opening.
“There are so many unsung heroes at the DPW. Taking a week to recognize everybody is huge and I’m glad we have a chance to do it,” said Priest.
Seletemen Bob Hogan mirrored Priest’s comments.
“The DPW is generally overlooked, not like police and fire who are out there and people know who they are,” Hogan said.
The old DPW facility behind Kohl’s has been torn down and construction of a new DPW facility is moving forward on the site. Employees from the old facility will be working in temporary space at the new building. Chair Jim Tigges commented on the state of the old building.
“It’s nice to see our employees not in a building that’s decades old. They tore down the building today but that building started to fall down years ago,” Tigges commented. “It was in horrible shape.”
DPW Director John Sanchez noted that Burlington’s DPW appreciation week is separate from national DPW appreciation week which takes place in May.
The Board of Selectmen voted 5-0-0 in favor of the ‘Burlington DPW Appreciation Week’ proclamation.
