Burlington Fire Department Welcomes New Member

The Burlington Fire Department welcomed a new member this week.

At the recommendation of Burlington Fire Chief Michael Patterson, Town Administrator Paul Sagarino appointed Michael Donahue as the town’s newest Firefighter/Paramedic to fill a vacancy in the department during Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

Patterson said Donahue comes to the town from the Sudbury Fire Department where he has served for the last five years. He also currently works at Lowell General Hospital where he has been a paramedic for over three years.

Donahue has already attended the Massachusetts Fire Academy and is certified as a Firefighter 1 and 2 and is also HAZMAT Operations Certified. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UMass Lowell and a Master’s of Public Administration with a concentration in Fire and EMS Management from Anna Maria College. He is also a lead paramedic instructor at the New England Paramedic Institute.

“He comes highly recommended from both employment and personal references,” Patterson said. “Like many of our firefighters he’s a multi-generational firefighter – his father is currently the Deputy Chief for Chelmsford and his grandfather was a firefighter in Lowell.”

The board unanimously voted to waive the standard 15-day waiting period for new hires.
