Burlington Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Skates Through Reading

Burlington Girls Ice Hockey finished the regular season at (8-0-1) and earned their ticket to the postseason on Wednesday, February 17 at the Burlington Ice Palace.

The team were seeded number three in the Middlesex League Tournament and hosted the number sixth seed the Reading Rockets.

In the first half of the game, both the Red Devils and Rockets were scoreless. During the second period, things picked up the pace for Burlington. Senior/Captain Shannon McDonald, Freshmen Shea McDonald, Senior Alexia Hamilton and 8 grader Caitlyn Tremblay scored points for the girls in the second half. An empty netter was also in the mix near the end. The final was 5-1 Burlington.

During the regular season, the girls outscored their opponents, however that did not happen during the first half of the game.

“We really haven’t had to close of a game up until this point, Head Coach Rick Sheehan said. “We really haven’t had anyone battle us equally,” he said. “ It was a good test for us and we came and we stepped up to the plate.”

The girls will head to the semi round of the ML tournament and will face the Woburn Tanners in Woburn on Thursday, February 18 at 12:30 pm.
