Burlington High School Boys Basketball

Here is where everyone stands for BHS Boys Varsity, JV and Freshmen Basketball.

Varsity: Boys varsity basketball had a match up on Wednesday, February 10 against the Red Raiders in Melrose where they won by 10 points in a 49-39 final. Captain/Senior/Guard Tyler Williams put up 15 points, Junior/Forward Shane Mahoney with 12 and Sophomore/Guard Eric Sekyaya put up 10 points his career high. The team then had the final regular season home game against the Watertown Red Raiders on Saturday, February 13 where they ended up getting defeated by Watertown 54-29. Burlington squared off with the Red Raiders again on Monday, February 15 where they bounced back with a score of 60-54.  Junior/Forward Shane Mahoney put up 20 points, Senior/Captain Sean McLaughlin had 18 and Justin Bairos with 12. The team finished the regular season at (8-2) and will are ranked fourth seed in the the ML Playoffs. They will face the number fifth Reading Rockets on Wednesday, February 17 at 12:15 pm at BHS. JV/Freshmen: Boys Basketball JV and Freshmen both finished out their season this weekend. Freshmen finished out at a record of (6-2), while JV concluded the season at (3-5).

Varsity: Boys Basketball had a match up against the Melrose Red Raiders on Saturday, February 6 at BHS. The first period the Red Devils were able to score 11 points, while Melrose had 9. With a mini break at the end of the first period, the Devils accelerated with 19 additional points in the second period. The Red Raiders only had 11. By halftime, the Red Devils were up the score was 30-20 Burlington. The Red Devils slowed down a big in the third as they managed to score 12 points and Melrose with 9. Fourth period of the game, the Devils executed on offense as they put up an additional 21 points on the board. Melrose Red Raiders had 10. The final in the game was 63-39 Burlington. The Devils move to (6-1) on the season and will verse the Watertown Red Raiders on Saturday, February 13 at BHS.

JV: Boys JV also faced Melrose on Saturday, February 6 at BHS. Red Devils scored 14 points in the first period, while Melrose had 12. A big momentum shift came in the second, third and fourth period for the Melrose Red Raiders as they scored an additional 13 points in the second, 14 points in the third and 16 points in the fourth. The final in the game was 55-43 Melrose. Red Devils JV team drops to (2-4) on the season and will face Watertown Red Raiders on Saturday, February 13 at BHS.

Freshmen: The Red Devil Freshmen team had a matchup against Wakefield on Saturday, January 30 at the BHS Wooden Gym. Burlington lost by 16 points in the defeat. The final in the game was 53-37 Wakefield. Boys Freshmen stands at (2-4).

Basketball Boys:

Varsity: Boys Varsity had a monster game against the Wakefield Warriors on Saturday, January 30 at the Burlington High School Wooden Gym. Burlington had a little bit of a blowout as they scored 63 unanswered points. A number of athletes scored at will during the match. Junior/Forward Shane Mahoney and Freshman/Guard Cedric Rodriguez both put up 15 points for the Red Devils. Captain/Senior/Forward Sean McLaughlin scored 11 points, while Junior/Guard Tyler Williams and Senior/Captain/Guard Justin Bairos both put up 10 points. The final in the game was 63-47 Red Devils. Burlington advances to (3-1) on the season.

Burlington will face the Stoneham Spartans in two make-up games on Wednesday in Stoneham and Thursday in Burlington. Then, they team will face the Melrose Red Raiders on Saturday, February 6.

 

Freshmen: The Red Devil Freshmen team had a matchup against Wakefield on Saturday, January 30 at the BHS Wooden Gym. Burlington lost by 16 points in the defeat. The final in the game was 53-37 Wakefield. Boys Freshmen stands at (2-4).

JV: Burlington JV was supposed to play Wakefield as well, however that game was cancelled due to COVID protocols. The team currently stands at (2-3)
