The Select Board recently approved three recommendations for promotion by Burlington Police Chief Thomas Browne.

The first promotion was for Lieutenant Thomas Carlson, who was appointed to the rank of captain. Carlson is a 21-year veteran of the Burlington Police Department and a Burlington High School graduate. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University, and a master’s degree in justice studies from Southern New Hampshire University.

The board also approved the promotion of Sergeant William Trelegan to lieutenant. Trelegan has served with the department since 2008. Prior to that he was a full-time officer with the Ayer Police Department.

Trelegan is a Burlington High School graduate and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from UMass Lowell. Trelegan serves as the training sergeant and is a certified arson investigator among other duties and certifications.

The third promotion was for Officer Daniel Main to the rank of sergeant. Main has been with the department since 2018 and is a graduate of the NECC Police Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in juvenile justice and math and science from Wheelock College.

Main has served as a senior field training officer and an in-house instructor in firearms, taser, less lethal and use-of-force training. He has also been part of NEMLEC, serving on the regional response team, drone unit and SWAT team.

Chief Browne also introduced five newer officers, Andrew Lalli, Matthew Qualey, Taylor Girouard, Kenneth Saidah and Kevin Steere. The officers were appointed before entering the NECC Police Academy and are now in the final phase of the field training program. They are expected to move toward solo patrol assignments later this month.
