The Burlington Public Arts Committee is asking for community support to help purchase two of the most popular sculptures currently on display as part of the town’s Sculpture Walk: Edwin the Hungry Dragon and Dream Manifesting.
Both pieces were part of the 2024 installation and, according to the committee, quickly became favorites among visitors. The goal is to raise $21,000 to purchase the sculptures so they can remain in Burlington permanently.
The Public Arts Committee, which organizes the Sculpture Walk and other public art initiatives, operates largely through donations from residents and local businesses. In addition to reaching out to the community, the committee plans to seek support from area businesses to help meet its fundraising goal.
Donations can be made on the web site www.burlingtonsculpturepark.org or via Venmo @BurlingtonPublicArt. No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
The Sculpture Walk, located on the Burlington Common and across Center Street near municipal buildings, is an ongoing public art project that began in 2018. Since its first sculpture installation in 2020, the committee has leased artwork on a two-year cycle, using community feedback and surveys to determine which pieces to purchase and keep as part of the town’s permanent collection.
So far, six sculptures have been added to that collection. Follow Your Heart, Lumen (the dragonfly), and Global Warming(the yellow cherries) were purchased through a 2022 fundraising campaign. Additional pieces, including Seraph, Havoc the Dog, and LoveBirds, were acquired through donations.
If funding is not secured for Edwin the Hungry Dragon and Dream Manifesting, the remaining leased sculptures from the current installation will be returned to their artists in the summer of 2026.
The Burlington Public Arts Committee is a town-supported initiative focused on expanding access to public art throughout the community. The Sculpture Walk is open daily from dawn to dusk.
