Burlington Public Schools Report Four New Cases Since Friday

Burlington Public Schools have announced four new positive COVID-19 cases since last week.

On Saturday they reported a case at Marshall Simonds Middle School, on Sunday they reported one at Fox Hill Elementary School and on Monday they reported a case at Burlington High School and in the Fox Hill After School Program.

In a series of letters to parents, Superintendent Eric Conti and Health Director Susan Lumenello, they explained that in each case the Board of Health immediately began contact tracing to see who was in close contact with the student or staff member who tested positive. Close contact is defined as being within six feet of the affected individual for longer than 10 minutes. Any person determined to be within close contact, both through activities inside or outside of school, will be contacted by the Board of Health and will be required to quarantine. Testing will be recommended for all close contacts, however, any close contacts testing negative for COVID-19 must still complete quarantine requirements as issued by the Board of Health.

If you are not contacted by the Board of Health then your child is not considered a close contact.

In both the Fox Hill School and middle school cases, Conti and Lumenello said that out of an abundance of caution the classroom with the affected person will be closed and learn remotely for two weeks.
