Burlington resident Rose Hatch is preparing to take on one of the world’s most prestigious races while raising awareness and support for a cause focused on inclusion.
Rose will run the 2026 Boston Marathon as a charity runner for The James Gang, a nonprofit organization that promotes inclusion for adults living with intellectual disabilities.
The organization was founded in honor of James Anderson, who has NARS1 Gene Disorder. Through its work, The James Gang provides funding to local partners, including the Burlington Recreation Department, to support programs that create opportunities for connection and growth. These include sports, music therapy, and adaptive fitness classes designed to help individuals build friendships and gain new experiences.
Funding from the nonprofit also supports awareness and research efforts related to NARS1 Gene Disorder through the Rory Belle Foundation.
For Rose, this year’s Boston Marathon will mark a milestone. While she has previously completed three marathons, including the Disney Marathon, the Baystate Marathon, and a virtual race, this will be her first time running the Boston Marathon.
As a volunteer with Special Olympics, she said she is especially motivated to support The James Gang’s mission and help expand opportunities for inclusion.
“Every dollar raised helps their mission and creates meaningful opportunities for inclusion while bringing them closer to a cure,” she said.
