Burlington Schools Report 13 New COVID-19 Cases in a Week

While the percent positivity rate has been going down in Burlington, the schools posted their highest one-week total of new cases.

According to the Burlington School Department, they have had 13 positive cases confirmed in the district since Monday, January 18. Five of the cases were at Pine Glen, four were at Fox Hill, one cas was at Francis Wyman and three were at Burlington High School.

In letters from Superintendent Eric Conti and Health Director Susan Lumenello, they explain that at the elementary school level it is their policy to move any classroom with a probable case of Covid-19 to remote learning for 10 days out of an abundance of caution. They also do contact tracing to determine who was a close contact with the individual who tested positive.

Overall, the number of cases in Massachusetts has been going down since the week before and Burlington has seen a drop in its rate of positive cases. According to the weekly report from the state that was put out last Thursday, Burlington had a percent positivity rate of 6.53. The week before that rate was 7.8 percent.

The number of new cases per 100,000 people did not drop and in fact went up a little. In last week’s report the number was 58.5 whereas the week before it was 58.
