Just as Burlington High School students head to state and national competitions for their clubs and student organizations, students at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School head to SkillsUSA, a workforce development organization for members of technical programs. One such student is Nicole Hatch, a Burlington resident and a senior at Shawsheen.
Hatch earned her spot at Nationals by winning at the state level.
“States was very nerve racking. During the second half of the competition, the questions grew increasingly difficult,” she said. “My team pulled through evidently; I think we work well together. Outside of competition, there were a few ceremonies and parties; nothing too extraordinary.”
Hatch will compete in the Health Knowledge Bowl at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference as part of a team of four, answering jeopardy-style questions related to the medical field in topics like anatomy, current events, laws and pathology.
“I’m excited, but I don’t feel as nervous as I did for the state conference since I felt more pressure to win,” Hatch told BNEWS. “I’m just going to Nationals to do my best and have fun even though the idea of winning would be amazing.”
Congratulations to Hatch and the other Shawsheen students heading to Atlanta for Nationals this June!
