Burlington Took on The Bedford Buccaneers on Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day wouldn’t be complete without High School Football. Spectators and players alike were excited for the return of the football tradition, as last year the COVID-19 pandemic forced the season to be postponed until spring. This year, not only did we see a return of Turkey Day football, but also the return of Burlington’s original Thanksgiving Day rivals The Bedford Buccaneers.  The two teams have not faced off on Turkey Day since the 1972 season and they were ready to renew an old riverly this season.

The Red Devils had a tough day as they were trailing to the Bucs the entire game. The Red Devils struggled on defense as they allowed eight touchdowns for the Buccaneers in the 58 to 18 defeat. Buccaneer’s Running back Eric Miles had four, two in the first quarter, one in the second quarter and his last in the third quarter. Quarterback Jake Morrison found the endzone three times, once in the first quarter and twice in the second quarter. Lastly running back Mikey Delia had one in the fourth quarter.

Burlington’s offense did not go home without a fight as they found the endzone on three of their possessions. Two touchdowns were made in the first quarter by seniors and wide receivers Sammy Doherty and Aidan Noke. Senior running back Adam Eldeeb got the Devils final touchdown in the fourth.

Even though Burlington had three scoring drives, the Bedford defense overpowered the Red Devil offense on the line of scrimmage and the backfield. Senior quarterback Ronan Noke threw two interceptions, one to outside linebacker Cian O’Donnell and another to safety Jake Morrison who is also Bedford’s quarterback on offense. The offense line for Burlington let their quarterback get sacked twice by Richie Fedele and defensive tackle Eli Almonte.

Thirteen seniors will be departing from the team, running back and safety Sammy Doherty, quarterback and safety Ronan Noke, running back and linebacker Adam Eldeeb, wide receiver and corner John Hoffman, wide receiver and linebacker Brady McGonagle, wide receiver and corner Dom Lamoretti, wide receiver and corner Ayush Shingavi, tight end and linebacker Tim Vadnais, wide receiver and corner Matt Pupa, wide receiver and linebacker Aidan Noke, offensive/defensive linemen Christian Aine, Shaan Bansal and wide receiver and corner Aman Hirani.

Good luck to all the graduating seniors in your futures. Burlington finished the year with a (2-9) record.
