The Burlington 4th of July Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s parade.
In an email sent to BCAT, Select Board & 4th of July Committee Member Nick Priest writes the committee was “faced with several issues that forced us to entertain this decision not the least of which is the Massachusetts DOT’s resurfacing project of Route 3A, Cambridge St. This project will see the complete resurfacing of 3A from the Billerica/Burlington line to 123 Cambridge St.”
Traditionally, Burlington’s 4th of July Parade begins at the Presbyterian Church on Cambridge Street, turns down Winn Street by Shaw’s, and concludes at Marshall Simonds Middle School. The state’s resurfacing project would affect at least half of the parade’s 2-mile route.
“We are considering a ‘day-of’ event on the Town Common as a fundraiser and more information will be coming with regards to that.” said Priest.
“We want to take a moment to say thank you for all of your generosity and support. Every year, because of you, the residents of Burlington are treated to such a wonderful and enjoyable parade.”
