The Burlington Red Devils defeated the Arlington Spy Ponders in a one-sided affair in their final game at Varsity Field this season.
Burlington scored the first touchdown near the end of the first quarter. The early advantage paid off, as they held Arlington to a three point field goal, bringing the score to 6-3.
Arlington notched a touchdown in the second quarter, but the Devils scored three, increasing their lead to 20-9 at the half. Arlington’s defense couldn’t contain the red hot Burlington offense for the rest of the way: Burlington made three more touchdowns in the second half, bringing the final score to 39-9 Devils.
Quarterback Anthony Gerrior had 315 passing yards and six touchdowns. Wide receiver Ryan Ellis had 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns; wide receiver John Melo also had two touchdowns.
It was a bittersweet game for the seniors, for whom it was their last time playing on Varsity Field for the season.
“We have so much fun together, you know, nothing beats scoring a touchdown and celebrating with your guys,” said quarterback Anthony Gerrior.
Burlington will close out the season at the traditional Thanksgiving Day game in Bedford on November 28.
