Burlington’s September 11th Ceremony

Members of Burlington Fire and Police Departments, along with attendees held an intimate September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at the Burlington 9/11 memorial on the Town Common. 

The flag was saluted at it was raised by a Firefighter and Police Officer and then lowered to half-staff.  A Firefighter did a reading of the Firefighters Prayer followed by a Police Officer reading the Police Officer’s Prayer. 

There was a moment of silence for all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 

The Burlington Fire and Police Departments recognized their departed brethren. 343 New York City Firefighters were lost, 23 NYC Police personnel and 37 Port Authority Officers.

Burlington lost four community members in the attacks, Robert J. Hayes, Jim and Mary Trentini and Thomas McGuinness Jr. U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Gregory MacDonald of Burlington was killed in Iraq in 2003 during the in the ensuing war on terror.  

We will never forget those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and those that made the ultimate sacrifice in saving lives.
