Conservation Administrator John Keeley was before the Select Board requesting approval for the purchase of conservation land on Saw Mill Road under the will of Marshall Simonds. The land is abutting a portion of the Saw Mill Conservation Area that was acquired with a separate grant.
Town Meeting approved the purchase of this same parcel in 2011 however the town lost touch with the land owner.
“Suddenly the seller stopped returning our phone calls and whatnot,” said Keeley. “We were contacted a few weeks ago by the seller’s son and they want to sell the land to us again.”
The Select Board approved the request 5-0-0 to go ahead with the process of hiring an appraiser, conducting negotiations, etc. A warrant article is being drafted that will likely come before Town Meeting in the fall.
