Cross Country, Field Hockey and a Number of Other Teams Get Wins on Tuesday Night

It was a busy day for Burlington High Teams as the fall sports season has hit high gear for the Red Devils.

The Boys Varsity Golf team headed to Arlington to take on the Spy Ponders on Tuesday afternoon. The boys came out with a victory in that one. They will be heading to down Winn Street to take on their rival, the Woburn Tanners on Thursday afternoon.

Boys and Girls Cross Country had their season opener at Varsity Field against the Winchester Sachems on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Devils won over the Sachems 25-32.

Individual wins were made by Junior James Johnson who finished in second place at a time of 15 minutes and 57 seconds. Behind him, was Senior Ricky Healey who finished at 16 minutes and 51 seconds.

In 4th place was Sophomore Paul Conti finishing his time at 16 minutes and 59 seconds. In 7th place was Senior Doug Bibbo who completed his time at 17 minutes and 31 seconds.

Freshmen Patrick Gray came in 9th place and finished in 17 minutes and 34 seconds. Junior Richard Cromwell came in 10th and finished in 17 minutes and 48 seconds.  Senior Richard Vittum came in at 11th place and finished in 17 minutes and 49 seconds.

Finally, Juniors Jonathan Wolinski (16th) finished at 18 minutes and 20 seconds, Jack Giles (18th) at 18 minutes and 22 seconds and Sophomore Anthony Minichiello (20th) at 18 minutes and 29 seconds.

The boys got their first win of the season and are off to a  (1-0) start. As for the girls, things didn’t go their way, as they were defeated by Winchester. Both teams will be back in action  next Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field against the Melrose Red Raiders.

Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Field Hockey Teams traveled north on I-95 for a divisional game against the Stoneham Spartans on Tuesday.

Junior Varsity defeated the Spartans in a shutout of 4-0. Goals were made by Sophomore Bella Floyd and then a hat trick by Addy Jay.

The Varsity team also had a win over the Spartans, but it wasn’t a shutout. The Lady Devils had a close game with a final score of 3-2.

Two goals were made by Ranya Paul, one by Grace Calandrella and the third by Anna Otis. Both teams will be at home at BHS to take on the Watertown Red Raiders on Thursday afternoon.

JV lost against the Warriors. Freshmen defeated them in their first win on the season. Varsity gets another win on the season as they move to (3-1) on the season.

All the teams will be playing at home against the Wilmington Wildcats at home on Wednesday afternoon.
