The results are in from Massachusetts’ state primary election, with Republican John Deaton winning a three-way race to face off against incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren in November and Democrat Mara Dolan defeating incumbent Governor’s Council member Marilyn Pettito Devaney.Â
Burlington’s ballot was relatively quiet this primary cycle: United States Congressman Seth Moulton, a Democrat whose district includes Burlington, was uncontested, as were Burlington’s State Rep. Ken Gordon and State Senator Cindy Friedman, both Democrats.Â
According to data from Town Clerk Amy Warfield, 3,156 Burlington residents voted in the September 3 primary, which accounts for 16.3 percent of total registered voters. Of those, 2,224 voted Democrats, 911 voted Republicans, and 21 voted Libertarians.Â
Although Governor’s Councillor candidate Dolan defeated her primary opponent Devaney statewide, Burlington Democrats handily preferred Devaney; the incumbent earned 1,248 votes to Dolan’s 822. Republicans in Burlington matched the state vote, preferring Deaton (523 votes) to his competitors Robert J. Antonellis (325 votes) or Ian Cain (54 votes).Â
Voters will return to the polls on November 5 for the National General Election.
