Eagle Scout, 100-Year-Old Resident Receive Proclamations

The Select Board delivered two Proclamations to two town residents recently.

Henry Morin, 17, the son of Steve and Kimberly Morin, completed the requirements to rise to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting created in 1911. According to the Proclamation, only a small percentage of Boy Scouts have successfully attained this rank.

Those who do, it added, have gone on to distinguish themselves in their respective areas, including Neil Armstrong (first man on the moon), Michael Dukakis (former Governor of Massachusetts), and Steven Goldberg (award-winning movie director and producer), to name a few.

His service project was blazing a nature trail across from Francis Wyman Elementary School. The mile-long stretch, give or take a little, can be used by teachers and students to enjoy nature and for use as an outdoor classroom.

“That’s probably what means the most to me because I know the school is doing good things with it,” said Henry, 17, who is now looking at colleges.

Morin received his proclamation on Saturday, Nov.26 which, as the Select Board says, is now his day.

“We the Select Board of the Town of Burlington to hereby proclaim Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, as Henry Morin Day.”

The Select Board also bestowed another Proclamation on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, to Robert Marrocco, who has just turned 100-years-old.

When giving congratulations for his honor, Marrocco said with a laugh, “Why? I didn’t write it.”

When reminded he lived it, he said. “I guess I did!”

Marrocco met his wife Marion on a blind date, and they married on Aug. 12, 1946. They were married for 72 years. He has two children, six grand children and great grand child. He built his home in Burlington in 1952, where he still resides today.

A tailgunner for the Navy, he became a purchasing agent for a large machine shop until his retirement.

Today, he enjoys reading the newspaper, meeting with friends at the American Legion and Donna’s Donuts. He is an active participant Burlington Senior Center. He takes Tai-Chi lessons and still walks two miles a day and works in his yard.

When asked about his secret to living to 100, he said, “Keep moving!”

“The Select Board wishes to honor Robert Marrocco on his 100th birthday and hereby proclaim Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, as Robert Marrocco Day in the town of Burlington.”
