BNEWS Entertainment Buzz: Movie Recommendations for Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day Weekend, and why not follow up your romantic dinner date with a movie? The winter months are not always the biggest month for new releases in theaters, and considering the upcoming forecast, here’s a few gems you can stream at home with your special someone. (Please note that some of these films may not be suitable for all ages)

Streaming on Disney Plus:

Cinderella – The Disney animated classic based on the famous fairy-tale celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

Lady & The TrampAnother Disney animated classic celebrating a major milestone this year (70 years), it tells the story of a well-pampered Cocker Spaniel whose life takes a turn when she catches the attention of a stray mutt. Perfect for dog-lovers.

The Princess BrideRob Reiner’s adaptation of the same-named novel from 1973 features a grandfather reading a story of romance and adventure to his bed sick grandson.


Streaming on Hulu:

Crazy, Stupid, LoveSteve Carell leads the cast of this 2011 romantic comedy, as a a man that recently discovered his wife cheated on him, and is now absolutely helpless on the dating scene. A young bachelor (Ryans Gosling) takes it upon himself to help him get his groove back. Emma Stone and Julianne Moore also star. 

Palm SpringsAndy Samberg and Cristin Milioti star in this gem from 2020 about a pair of wedding guests stuck in a Groundhog Day-esque time loop. They slowly start to form a romance as they are forced to live the same day over and over again.

TitanicWho doesn’t remember the 1997 epic directed by James Cameron? Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio star as a pair of star-crossed lovers from different classes aboard the infamous ship’s ill-fated maiden voyage.

 

Streaming on Max:

CasablancaThe timeless classic starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman features a man struggling to help his former lover and her new partner escape the same-named city, and aid the resistance against the Nazi regime.

Fever Pitch – This one’s for all the Boston sports fans…set during the Red Sox’s historic 2004 seasons, Drew Barrymore stars as a successful career woman who begins dating a Sox super-fan played by Jimmy Fallon.

We Live In TimeJust released last fall, We Live In Time chronicles a decade of romance between a recent divorcee’ and an up-and-coming chef (Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh) after an unexpected encounter (She hits him with her car…)

 

Streaming on Netflix:

Anyone But YouSydney Sweeney and Glen Powell star as two singles who’s courtship ended badly, reuniting at a destination wedding. They pretend to be a happy couple to appease their friends and family. 

The LoveBirdsYou may have missed this film from 2020, which stars a couple (Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani) who go on the run after witnessing a murder.

Meet The ParentsThis comedy favorite from 2000 starring Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro follows a young man (Stiller) accompanying his girlfriend (Teri Polo) for the weekend to meet her parents (DeNiro and Blythe Danner), the former of which is a retired, paranoid CIA agent.
