It’s always rewarding to give back during the holiday season and the Burlington Fire Department is doing just that with their annual Holiday Toy Drive for Boston Medical Center.
“We arrange two separate drops with the Boston Medical Center, one before Christmas and one after the new year,” Burlington Firefighter Rob Blenkhorn said.
During the drive, the department makes trips to Boston to donate the unwrapped items.
“We physically take the collected toys into Boston and drop them at the BMC campus for distribution to their Pediatric Center, ” Blenkhorn said. “They also have a resource network, which can help other Boston hospitals who are in need of toys for their inpatients.”
The donated items will be given out year round, not just during the holiday season.
“They give the inpatient children and their families toys for birthdays, surgeries, milestone treatments, etc,” Blenkhorn said.
The toy drive is going on now through the holiday season, all the way to January 4.
“The reason we collect into the new year is in hopes that instead of making returns people will consider donating their unwanted toys to a great cause.”
Help a child in need this holiday season. You can drop off toys at the Burlington Fire Headquarters, Burlington Fire Station Two, the Used Book Superstore, and Shaw’s Supermarket.
