Girls and Boys Cross Country teams Defeat Stoneham

The BHS Girls and Boys Cross Country teams had their home opener on Tuesday, October 5 at Varsity Field.

At the time, the girls were seeking their first win of the season as they previously lost to Lexington and Melrose. As for the boys, they lost against Lexington and bounced back with a win against the Red Raiders a week prior.

The Burlington girls ran first, starting from the practice field and finishing with one lap around the Varsity Field track. Coming in first place for the team was Senior Casey Collins who completed the race at a time of 20:10. Following behind her was Senior Katie Carney with a time of 21:39. Lastly, Freshmen Ashley DeMartinis came in third at 22:04. Burlington won the meet 25 to 30 over Stoneham and improved to (1-2) on the season.

The boys’ race started once the girls were finished. Four Red Devil seniors came in first, second, third and fourth place. Paul Conti came in at 17:03, Joey Gaiero at 17:24, Anthony Minichiello at 17:36 and Quinn Mattson at 18:11. The Red Devils prevailed as they defeated the Spartans with a final of 16-47. Burlington improves to (2-1) on the season. Both teams will host Wakefield on October 12 at Varsity Field.

Robert Parris

Robert Parris is BCAT’s Sports and Features Reporter. Robert first got involved with BCAT in January 2016 as a volunteer news reporter. Throughout the year, as a volunteer, he was busy developing his technical skills at the studio and his ENG skills in the field. In the summer of 2017, Robert joined the team full-time. He quickly settled into his role, providing all of the production support for our news programs, as well as providing weekly sports highlights. Robert also produces a weekly feature for BNEWS, as well as a monthly show called, BNEWS Sports Hub, and BCAT’s Game of the Week.
