Halal Eatz on Cambridge Street Offering Fresh, From-Scratch Fare

There is a new restaurant in town offering fresh, made-from-scratch items with a Middle Eastern twist.

Since July 10, Halal Eatz (originally Halal Shack) has been serving Gyros, Falafel, Chicken Over Rice, burgers, chicken. salads and other offerings at 195 Cambridge Street, former location of Burlington Cold Cuts.

“It’s been going okay,” owner Sarfaraz Jinwala said. “Lots of people are traveling now but I think once the schools are back open things should pick up again.”

Jinwala, a Burlington resident who has been running a local Indian restaurant for the past few years and had a location in Boston they had to close due to COVID, said he had been mulling the concept for some time now.

“I wanted to open a New York Cart style restaurant in town and with Chicken Over Rice you can never go wrong,” he said.

Jinwala said people have responded to the menu since they opened.

“I think so far we have seen people really loving the falafel, one of our specialties,” he said. “The falafel is very delicious, it’s very crunchy and comes with a really good sauce.”

Jinwala said they use fresh, organic ingredients and make the food from scratch.

He also said he has been pleased to see a wider variety of restaurants opening in Burlington, noting that a Brazilian Steakhouse and a Japanese restaurant are both in the process of opening at the mall.

“I’ve seen a lot of diversity in town – so many different types of food,” he said.

The restaurant also offers online ordering and delivery.
