Ice Cream Fundraiser to Benefit Family of 2 Year Old with Cancer

Enjoy some ice cream and family fun activities while helping the family of a child facing difficult medical treatment.

The Primrose School of Burlington will be hosting a fundraiser for the Blain family of Melrose, whose oldest daughter graduated from the preschool and whose youngest daughter, who is two-and-a-half years old, was diagnosed with leukemia.

“Meet The Blain Family – Craig, Teena, Ella and Cora are a wonderful family,” the school wrote in an invitation. “Primrose School of Burlington has had the privilege of having The Blain Family as part of our community since their oldest daughter Ella started in 2015. In June of 2021, Craig and Teena learned that their youngest daughter, Cora was diagnosed with leukemia. This news changed their world overnight and Cora is now undergoing aggressive treatments to cure her cancer.”

The fundraiser is to help the family cover medical bills.

“They are such a kind family,” said Director of School Operations Lori Barrett. “Teena is an employee at Lahey Hospital and worked through the pandemic. This is why we’re doing this charity – for all the medical bills they weren’t prepared for because nobody is prepared for their two year old to have leukemia. It’s a sad situation and we just want to be there for them.”

The fundraiser will be at the school located at 10 Greenleaf Way on Friday, September 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. with all activities taking place outdoors. Activities include ice cream, body painting, bubbles, hair design, music and a number of raffle items. There is a suggested donation of $30 and all proceeds will go to the Blain family through Burlington Womenade.
