Indian Association of Greater Boston India Republic Day Celebration

The Indian Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) will hold their annual Republic Day celebration on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Burlington High School. Republic Day is a holiday marking the signing of India’s Constitution in 1950. BNEWS spoke with IAGB President Vaishali Gade about the event.

The celebration begins at 1 p.m. in BHS cafeteria where Paani Indian Cuisine will be on hand offering subsidized lunch, dinner and snack options. There will also be a number of vendors and health booths.

The event will feature a number of competitions to enter like a ‘Climate Change’ themed art contest, Math Jeopardy, TED Talks, a Bollywood quiz and a Carrom competition. There will also be contests in poetry, chess, debate, story telling, and desserts. There is a small fee to enter the competitions.

A competition that does not require an entry fee is “Junior Shark Tank”. Aspiring High School and Middle School entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their business idea to the “Sharks”, a panel of established business people. Selected ideas will be eligible for up to $1,500 in seed money.

Down the hall at the BHS auditorium will be performances. Dancers from various dance schools across the New England area will perform. The event will wrap up with a fashion show featuring traditional Indian garb as well as trendy modern looks.
