It’s Election Season Again in Burlington

While April may seem far away, preparations for the Annual Town Election have already begun.

Those seeking to run for office have from now until Wednesday February 12 to obtain nomination papers, which can be picked up at the Town Clerk’s office. Those seeking a town-wide office must collect a minimum of 50 signatures from registered voters. Those seeking a position in Town Meeting must collect a minimum of 10 signatures from voters in their precinct.

Friday February 14 will be the last day to file nomination papers with the Board of Registrars.

Town-wide seats include Town Moderator (1), Select Board (2), School Committee (2), Assessor (1), Planning Board (2), Board of Health (2), Recreation Commission (1), Library Trustees (2), and Constable (2). This year’s ballot is still taking shape, but some candidates have already pulled papers. Select Board Vice Chairman Mike Espejo recently announced via Facebook he is seeking re-election. Those considering running for local office may consider viewing this presentation held by the Town Clerk’s Office in conjunction with Nicci Kadilak of Burlington Buzz.

Residents that have not already done so, the last day to register to vote in Burlington in time for this year’s election is Wednesday March 26. Registering to vote has never been easier. Click here to learn more.

The Annual Town Election will take place on Saturday April 5 with polls open at Burlington High School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Stay tuned to BNEWS for more election updates in the coming months.
