JulieAnne’s Bakery and Café is getting ready to open its doors this spring at The Shoppes at Simonds Park.
The Select Board recently approved a general business license for the resident-owned bakery, allowing owner Julie Lewis to move ahead with a planned late April or May opening. Lewis shared that she is working with the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce on a grand opening celebration as she puts the finishing touches in place.
Lewis, formerly the pantry manager at People Helping People, has long dreamed of opening her own bakery. A Cambridge School of Culinary Arts graduate, she has been working to turn that vision into reality.
JulieAnne’s will specialize in pies, offered whole and by the slice, along with what Lewis calls “killer cinnamon rolls,” plus muffins, scones, cupcakes, decorated cookies, and custom cakes for birthdays and celebrations. The café will also serve breakfast sandwiches and light lunch options, including soups and sandwiches.
One feature Lewis is especially excited about is a Sunday afternoon tea service, a unique offering she says fills a gap in the local market.
“It’s a niche that really isn’t met in the area right now,” Lewis said during her Select Board appearance.
Board members voiced their support for the new venture and shared their excitement about seeing the space come to life this spring.
