Letter to the Editor: 21st Middlesex State Rep. Candidate’s Claims about Town’s Water Supply

The following is a Letter to the Editor:

I have been shown a letter from candidate for State Representative Timmy Sullivan. The letter includes a return envelope apparently seeking contributions to his campaign.

This letter begins with the heading, “Burlington deserves reliable, clean water – and a State Representative who will fight for it.”

It appears that Timmy Sullivan is unaware that Burlington’s DPW is currently building an addition to filter PFAS from the water at Mill Pond.  This addition is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Burlington is also in the process of hooking up to the MWRA, a project also expected to be completed by the end of the year.  With the completion of these two projects, Burlington residents will no longer need to be concerned with PFAS in our drinking water, or with the safety of our water in general.

Ken Gordon, our current State Representative, worked with the state, to bring $3.5 million in funding to Burlington to assist in the MWRA hookup effort.

It is unfortunate that someone running to replace Mr. Gordon appears to be unaware of the issues facing Burlington today, and that he has sent a letter to our residents misleading them into thinking the town has not responded to these concerns without checking the facts.

Burlington voters need to know the truth.

Sincerely,

Janice Cohen
